Contained about Girieud
Two painters who, if they were grouped under the same label some forty years ago, are difficult to relate to today. (...) Girieud's art, with duller but more powerful colors, offers more qualities. This painter is represented by several paintings, all imbued with austere sadness that lack neither grandeur nor strength. The subjects vary little, they are almost always bare landscapes, as if out of time. Arid mountains, massive rocks, which inspired it by their hardness and whose very desolation brings the pathetic element in the work. Works worked in full dough, in which Girieud has enclosed all his inner faith and where he reaches a rare, rich and icy balance.
