| Contained about Girieud |

| If he, too, could have a fresher, clearer color, Mr. Girieud would seduce much more surely. But this truly remarkable artist, worthy of esteem for his conscience, his enlightened resistance to fashionable extravagances, is not yet appreciated as he deserves. His neat, well-ordered compositions, with a good search for groupings, a broad sense of landscape, are very worthy of attention among so many pretentious and sloppy pochades.
