Contained about Girieud
A retrospective of Pierre Girieud's work is open at the Maurice gallery, just a tribute to a painter who died two years ago at the retirement home in Nogent. He was more or less the contemporary of the artists of the Bateau-Lavoir and like them lived in the Butte, but he oriented his research in another direction, passionate about antiquity, great harmonious figures, landscapes of Provence with noble lines. He was classic without being academic and fresco was a medium he liked. The State sometimes appealed to him to decorate public monuments, but his absolute disinterestedness, the philosophy, the wisdom with which he considered everything, always kept him away from all prebend. We thought of him by visiting this exhibition, his bright eyes, the spirit with which he animated his words. He would have been happy to see his landscapes, his figures, his flowers so well united. - Reproduction of tulips and arums from 1938 -
