The Paul Rosenberg gallery is exhibiting works by Pierre Girieud from the past two years and some from an earlier date. The whole is quite remarkable and allows us to hope for the greatest future for Pierre Girieud.
From the meeting of these works there emerges I do not know what atmosphere of nobility and divine serenity. The artist, whose eminently decorative character is fully affirmed, likes antique compositions, and the inspiration of Puvis de Chavannes is certain. But the muse of the artist is gentle who rejoices in her personal research.
Inspiring Sappho and Apollo, Adam and Eve, and above all the exquisite Leda, achieve Beauty. The ordinance is calm, and serious, and healthy.
Landscapes, in large numbers, reveal to us in Pierre Girieud a landscape artist with a very exact vision and a delicate sensitivity. We can mention the landscape at Eguilles, the Pilon du Roi and the Plan Marseillais.
A few still lifes and drawings happily complete this set of works that we had the greatest pleasure in contemplating. |
